An investment management firm in Illinois is actively seeking an experienced and hardworking professional to join their staff as a Controller. In this role, the Controller will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting and overseeing the books and records for the organization. 

Responsibilities
The Controller will:

• Prepare audited financial reports for related entities
• Prepare tax-related information and provide it to tax preparers
• Supervise, guide, and train staff to prepare budgets, financial statements, accounting management, and various projects
• Review payment checks and bank wires for related entities
• Maintain control of inter-company accounts
• Monitor cash daily and transfer funds between entities as appropriate
• Prepare monthly consolidated financial statements
• Interact with outside brokers, bankers, and advisors to verify loan documents and balances, investment valuations, unfunded capital amounts, and other issues
• Manage the year-end financial audit and work with auditors to ensure a smooth and timely process
• Maintain and review payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions
• Assist the Chief Financial Officer in devising strategies and formulating policies to achieve specific goals and objectives for various projects
• Assist with the preparation of required SEC filings

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or a similar field
• 5-10 years of fund accounting and public accounting experience
• Demonstrates discretion
• Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and analytical abilities
• Ability to analyze, organize, summarize, and articulate complex financial information
• Portfolio database and accounting software proficiency and a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office and QuickBooks
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals

• CPA or CMA
• Experience within the financial industry
